With just a few weeks to go the countdown to the 2016 Guinness Cork Jazz Festival is well and truly on! A must for music and culture lovers, soak up the electric atmosphere of the Jazz Festival which is set to take Cork city by storm from the 28th until the 31st October.
Now in its 34th year, over 1,000 musicians are set to perform in more than 60 pubs, theatres, clubs and venues around the city. With over 40,000 people set to attend the festival, it’s certainly an event not to be missed.
Top highlights at the this year’s festival include Bell X1, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Brian Deady as well as folk legend Loudon Wainright III. In addition this year’s festival is set to attract acclaimed jazz drummer Jason Marsalis and Grammy award-winning jazz pianist Robert Glasper to the festival. Pianist Justin Kauflin will open the festival at the Everyman Theatre in a double bill in a double bill with contemporary jazz musician Jacob Collier.
“We are very excited to perform for the first time at the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival. I’m really looking forward to visiting Cork and playing for the audience there, as well as getting into the city and enjoying the festival for myself,” said Jason Marsalis.
In addition to other notable jazz performers including Sheryl Bailey and hot jazz and western swing trio, The Hot Club of Cowtown, the Guinness Jazz Festival will also feature a Jazz Fringe featuring Big Band Jazz, Jazz on the Plaza as well as a host of street bands. Cork School of Music will also play host to Jazz Camp during the festival as well as numerous free of charge workshops and masterclasses presented by the many performers. Local bands such as Cookie and the Vaudevilles, Groove Collective & One Horse Pony can be seen during the festival in some of the top venues.
