Kilkenny Animated Festival is a new festival of visual storytelling, which is hosted by Cartoon Saloon. Taking place in a variety of venues throughout Kilkenny, the city has become the animation capital of Ireland with the success of Cartoon Saloon’s recent films, “The Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea and The Breadwinner. Cartoon Saloon have in fact been nominated twice for Oscars for their films.


Taking place from the 23rd to the 25th February in Kilkenny city, the festival incorporates visual storytelling, cartoons, animation and illustration as well as guests including New Yorker cartoonists Carter Goodrich and Peter De Seve.

Join some of the world’s finest animators, cartoonists and illustrators for a weekend about all elements of visual creation. Featured in the line-up are screenings of animated films, exhibitions of cartoons and illustrations as well as various workshops, standup comedy and live graffiti displays.

Designers, illustrators, animators and cartoonists who have worked for Dreamworks, Disney, Pixar, and New Yorker magazine. The New York Times and the Jim Henson Company will also attend the festival and give workshops. Cartoonist Nick Galifianakis, Speedbump creator Dave Coverly, Sligo illustrator Annie West and Sweden artist Mattias Adolfsson are also set to give talks during the festival.
